Meet the authors

Judith Lea and Philip Elliott are the co-author’s of “It started with a Kiss in the magical land of Cornwall”, their autobiographical first book. They currently reside in the historic market town of Congleton, Cheshire caring for family members.

Judith has been an avid book reader all her life. She is a people watcher, listener and keeper of secrets, who would like to live in a utopian world full of kindness. Having worked within a financial environment most of her life, writing this autobiography has fed her soul. Her childhood dream was to become a rock star! In 1982, following heart surgery on her 7 year old son, she took the brave decision to leave the Northern rat race behind and moved her family, lock stock and barrel, to Cornwall to begin a new more fulfilling life.

Philip, on the other hand, was a perfect match for Cornish life, being so laid back he almost led his life horizontally. He met his “ex” whilst studying Teacher Training at the College of St. Mark & St John, Plymouth, before moving to Cornwall to marry her. For two years he worked in the family business before joining South Western Electricity Board in 1978 where he worked for 24 years. A further 22 years working for Greater Manchester Police followed before retiring in December 2020.

Both believe Destiny used the Magic of Cornwall to bring them together; they lived a wonderfully happy life enjoying the natural beauty of the county, it’s Dreckly lifestyle, becoming members of the Minack Theatre, sailing Osprey’s in Mount’s Bay, and supporting local rock bands, something they continue to do, regularly attending gigs and festivals. Sadly life was interrupted by addiction and mental health before eventually the ill health of family members caused a relocation back to Cheshire.

It Started With A Kiss in the magical land of Cornwall

It Started With A Kiss in the magical land of Cornwall" offers a unique and heartfelt journey through the complexities of love, destiny, and personal growth. Judith and Philip's autobiography is a candid portrayal of their unconventional love story, narrated with a blend of humor, candor, and honesty that kept me engaged from start to finish.

The book's premise of two individuals entangled in committed relationships, yet ultimately finding each other, is a reminder of the unexpected twists life can take. The way their paths crossed, orchestrated by what they refer to as the "Puppet Master," adds an element of fate to their narrative. I was inspired by the couple's willingness to embrace this new chapter of their lives, despite the challenges they faced.

The dual narration from both Judith and Philip offers contrasting perspectives that enrich the storytelling. Their recounting of events, emotions, and personal growth is both relatable and touching. The inclusion of various elements, from family dynamics to Cornish history, adds depth to the narrative and provides context to their journey.

The writing style is engaging, maintaining a conversational tone that allows readers to connect with the authors on a personal level. The book encompasses a wide range of emotions, from love and joy to heartbreak and relinquishment, offering a comprehensive view of their experiences.

As a reader, I expected a tale of romance, but the book delivered much more—lessons about life's unpredictability, the power of connections, and the strength of the human spirit. "It Started With A Kiss in the magical land of Cornwall" surpassed my expectations, leaving me moved by Judith and Philip's remarkable story of embracing love against the odds.

"A well written story of life which will take the reader through a whole range of emotions. Thought provoking, honest and and at times heartbreaking the authors come across as hard working, hard playing individuals who have lived and loved life. Can't wait for the next chapter".

"Really enjoyed reading this book, in fact I was sorry when it ended! Interestingly written, Judith & Philip are the two main characters each telling their life story as a couple. Hilarious and very sad in parts. Well worth a read.
Hoping there will be a sequel"
